Clusters of people turned out for the Chukka Caribbean Hanover Charities 2009 polo event, including the man who made the polo horseman a household name, designer Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren’s son, David former United States President George Bush’s niece, Lauren Bush, and a host of others showed up to join in the fun of the calm Sunday afternoon in Sandy Bay at Blue Hole Estate, once the home of Hanover Charities’ founding member, William Delisser. Chukka Caribbean Adventures, along with Hanover Charities, helped to re-establish the rich tradition of ‘high tea’ and an elegant afternoon of polo and socialising. Fashionable patrons came decked out in bright colours, big hats and chic accessories in support of Hanover Charities, as all proceeds went toward ventures undertaken by the charity group. Also adding colour to the event were the St Mary’s Prep School performers who roused the crowd with song and dramatic performances. ‘Flying Chins’
As the crowd grew larger, guests and donors looked on to first watch the opening match between Casa de Oro and Scotia Wealth which had two of the infamous ‘Flying Chins’ on hand to show off the skills they have possessed since being taught by their polo veteran father, Henry ‘Junior’ Chin. Youngest of the Chin brothers, Kurt, helped Chukka Caribbean Adventures in their victory against Round Hill Hotel & Villas in the second match.
