BIG-HEARTED people are being urged to help orphaned babies and toddlers whose lives have been ruined by the Aids pandemic in Africa.
Christian charity The Place of Restoration are building a nursery in South Africa for vulnerable children who have Aids or HIV. Some of the children have been orphaned as their parents have been killed by the virus. Now people in Lanarkshire are being asked to get behind the fundraising charity event in the Bully Inn, Quarter, on Saturday, May 23, at 7pm. Labour councillor Jackie Burns, the Rev George McDonald, minister of Quarter Parish Church, and his wife, Monica, have organised the big night. Tickets for the event cost £5, and there will be raffles and an auction in a bid to raise as much money as possible for the centre. Monica McDonald, secretary of Friends of Place of Restoration Scotland, said: “The centre can take in about 60 orphans but it is bursting at the seams and there is a need for a new nursery.
“The new centre will include a department for children with special needs.
