blueEnergys Service Learning Internship Program is a unique 1-12 week opportunity with flexible start and end dates. blueEnergy Project Managers work with interns to develop personalized projects tailored to academic and individual interest. This eye-opening, real-world experience will set you apart from your peers. You will gain leadership experience, learn how to work effectively in culturally diverse groups, and expand your knowledge of international project development.

blueEnergy is a non-profit organizationfocused on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, where over 75% of the population lack access to electricity and clean water. Utilizing a community-based project design model, we work directly with our beneficiaries to create appropriate solutions.blueEnergys Service Learning Internship Program allows you to practice language skills while being immersed in the rich culture of Nicaraguas Caribbean coast. You will work side-by-side international staff members and volunteers, local people and beneficiaries.

Create positive change in the lives of others while participating in projects related to:

Clean Water Initiatives: construction and implementation of water filter and well drilling technologies

Solar Latrines: construction, implementation, and public sensitization around technology

Improved Cook Stoves: distribution and public sensitization around technology

Community Solar Installations: design, implementation, and community education

Community Education: develop and oversee educational programs on renewable energy, hygiene and sanitation, and environmental conservation practices

PROGRAM FEES:

Fees are $1,600 for a 1 week program, with $600 each additional week. This fee pays for a high quality experience and covers: room, board, internet, laundry, emergency medical insurance, and project-based travel. A portion of your program fee directly supports blueEnergy beneficiaries that you will be working with during your time in Nicaragua. Program fees provide the most isolated communities a chance to live with the benefits of energy, clean water and sanitation services.

Please note: International airfares and domestic airfares are not covered. Program fees are 100% tax-deductible for US residents. Past interns have successfully secured foundation or college and university funding. blueEnergy can provide support in personal fundraising campaigns (for more information on how to begin this process, please clickhere).
