So far, so good for the Soboba Classic, the Nationwide Tour event set to debut in early October in San Jacinto.
Well, maybe even better than good, to hear the tour’s senior vice president of business affairs tell it. Jeff Monday was at the Country Club at Soboba Springs last week to meet with tournament officials, who just about blew him away with the news that they’d already raised more than $14,000 for local charities through the Tickets Fore Charity program. “That’s something that doesn’t usually start to show results until two or three months before the tournament,” Monday said by phone. “But right out of the gates, they’ve gone out and reached out to charities, which means that they’ve already gotten a great response from the community. “For a new event, they’re doing all the right things as well as I’ve ever seen.” There’s still plenty to be done, of course. The $1 million tournament will be held Oct. 1-4. Information: Coyotes reach championship
