Student Organizes Green Race At School 2009: Capstone Project

Student organizes green race at school

For her capstone project at Cambridge School of Weston (CSW), senior Sophie Goldsmith of Lexington is organizing a “Go for Green” 5K event to
help raise money for green projects on campus. The “Go for Green” 5K event will be held Sunday, May 17 at the school, 45 Georgian Road, Weston. Participants should check in at the traffic circle in front of the Kluchman Building at 1 p.m. After speaking with her capstone advisor, Ben Ibbetson, they came up with the concept of organizing her own 5K walk at the school. “CSW has made me more of an environmentalist by helping the environment through small tasks, like using green fertilizers,” Sophie said. “This is a thank-you to CSW for instilling green ideas and policies into me.” All proceeds from the “Go for Green” 5K event will be used to buy eco-friendly products such as fertilizers, winter salts and cleaners, as well as to enrich the reforestation of trees on the grounds.
CSW is donating prizes, which will be awarded to the first three participants to cross the finish line. Healthy snacks will also be available to keep the participants energized and motivated, donated by local distributors Zoey Foods and Food Should Taste Good, both of Needham.
