A BRAVE teenager inspired a fundraising drive for the charity which helped him battle cancer.
In the last year, the Estonians Motor Cycle Club has raised &pound1,000 for CLIC Sargent. The charity supports children with cancer, like Adam Illingworth from Middlesbrough who was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was just five years old. Within days of his tumour being discovered, the youngster underwent a six-hour operation at Newcastle’s General Hospital to remove the growth that was bigger than a golf ball. After several operations and gruelling sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the youngster was finally given the all-clear. Now aged 13, Adam is a pupil at King’s Academy and continues to battle hard to overcome problems and disabilities left by the cancer and treatment. He has the mental age of an eight-year-old and is unable to walk in a straight line due to paralysis down one side of his body.
The King’s Academy pupil has also lost his hearing in one ear, only has 40% hearing in the other and is epileptic.
