Spanish, geography and textiles GCSEs: 10 A/As, Oxford high school Ambition To work for a multinational company Emma Grundy has amassed a considerable amount of work experience since she started university four years ago. She spent a year as a language assistant at a primary school in Madrid, shadowed a communications coordinator in the humanitarian division at Oxfam for a week and spent last Easter working full-time for , a holiday home rental website. In fact, she has spent part of every summer working for Holidaylettings since May 2005. “I’m a customer service adviser there,” she says. “My role includes giving technical support to customers and helping the sales team to find and secure new customers.” Now Grundy hopes that her commitment to developing skills through work experience will pay off with a great graduate job in the next few months. “I’m going to be seeking work with companies such as Mars, L’Oreal and Tui, a German travel company,” says Grundy. “These companies give you an opportunity to train in a wide range of departments and offer fantastic opportunities to work abroad.” Grundy, who is taking European studies and Spanish at the University of Leeds, says she would like to work in a senior management role abroad in five or ten years’ time.
