Thousands take part in 10k race blessed with sunshine

Perhaps it was the high number of churchgoers taking part that led to the perfect weather for Bristol’s second 10k race.
Whatever the reason, there is little doubt that the sun set the seal on a hugely successful event on the harbourside on Sunday. About 7,800 took part in the run, which set off from Anchor Road under blue skies. A cooling breeze ensured that almost all were able to complete the distance without major problems, and there was little need for space blankets to warm anyone up, although the water given out to each contestant was no doubt welcome. The first elite runners were set off by the Lord Mayor of Bristol Councillor Chris Davies and were back within half an hour, while the cathedral bells were still ringing. The first three home were all British athletes. About 300 entrants wore T-shirts bearing the slogan Love Running.
