The Salt Lake Tribune Utah’s cycling scene is healthy enough that finding a race on the road or dirt isn’t the problem, it’s deciding
in which one to participate or watch. From now until well into the fall there is a variety of cycling events in Utah. For the road there is no bigger event than the Tour of Utah, the August race that not only attracts some of the top teams in the nation but also offers events for amateur racers. While the Tour of Utah features the biggest peloton of pro cyclists, it by no means is the only race that matters in the state. For instance, June alone features six road race events. Throw in the weekly criterium and time trial series plus the road tours that cater to amateur cyclists and there are more than 20-plus opportunities for cyclists to hit the road, not to mention the dirt. Events range from the laid-back Little Red Riding Hood, women’s only ride on June 6 to the grueling but extremely popular races up the nearby canyons to the many charity rides such as the June 13, Tour de Cure which raises money for the American Diabetes Association.
