In the world of hospitality, where warm smiles and impeccable service are the norm, many hardworking individuals find themselves grappling with significant challenges. From hotel staff to restaurant workers, the people who make our stays comfortable and our meals delightful often face hurdles that can be tough to navigate. These difficulties can range from job insecurity and long hours to the ever-present demands of customer satisfaction. Despite their dedication to ensuring our comfort, these unsung heroes of the hospitality industry often confront their own struggles behind the scenes. In this exploration, we shed light on the obstacles they encounter and the resilience they exhibit in the face of adversity.
Fortunately, there is a glimmer of hope amidst these challenges. Organizations like Hospitality Action step in to provide support and assistance to those in the hospitality industry, offering a helping hand to those who work tirelessly to make our dining and lodging experiences memorable.
And now, as Hospitality Action continues its mission of aiding these dedicated hospitality professionals, they invite us all to be a part of their cause. Their upcoming fundraising event, “A Walk for Wellbeing,” promises to be a step towards brighter days for those facing difficulties in the industry. So, lace up your shoes, join in, and make a meaningful stride towards supporting the unsung heroes of hospitality.
Now in its fourth year, Walk for Wellbeing, powered by UK hospitality talent partner mum in partnership with Caterer.com and Peoplebank, invites the nation to put on its walking shoes and join Hospitality Action to take strides towards promoting better wellbeing for all whilst raising funds to support its vital work.
The wellbeing of our people demands our collective attention. Currently over half of those contacting Hospitality Action for support directly reference mental health issues. The overwhelming majority are also struggling with household debts, with many facing the threat of court action or eviction. Nearly half are working in front-facing roles, including bar staff, waiting teams and baristas.
We are here to help. Since the start of 2020, we have helped more people than ever, answering 26,809 helpline calls and delivering 6,753 face-to-face and over-the-phone counselling sessions. But there is still so much more to do.
