A HUMBLE church hall was transformed into a swanky Ritz Hotel for an afternoon of tea and cakes to raise money for a Coventry-based
charity. About 90 people attended the event in Walsgrave Baptist Church, in Hinckley Road, and raised about &pound470 for Global Care, which supports children across the world. Organiser Jean Foss said: “We’ve got plenty of luxury in this country so we wanted to use our plenty to share with others abroad. “It was very over the top with candelabra and decorations but everything we had was donated or borrowed. “We even got the crockery from the Global Care charity shop and I’m washing it all to send it back.” The money will go towards the charity’s Food and Future Programme which provides school meals for children living in poverty in east Africa. The event was one of a series organised by Jean to support Global Care.
A COVENTRY toddler died in a house fire after being left alone for more than three hours by her mother while she attended court, a jury was told.
