Get involved A SOLDIER is planning to run 56 miles to raise money for his mum and sister who have breast cancer.
Matthew Singleton was devastated when he found out his sister Stacey, 39, was diagnosed with the illness in August, 2007, and his grief was made worse when three weeks ago his mother Bernie, 59, of New Brighton, also found out she had cancer. The 29-year-old, who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, will run a 56-mile ultra-marathon Extreme Running Event, from London to Brighton, on September 20. His mother, Bernie, has decided she wants to help Matthew raise a target of &pound5,000 towards the charity, which she believes has kept her daughter, a mother-of-three, alive. She said: “You don’t realise the pain cancer causes until you’re in it and you never think it will happen to you. “The more money they get now, the more treatments and cures they can find for the future.
“Her cancer has spread to her sternum, and she is currently having more chemotherapy. “
