Car Show Returns To Halifax 2009: Fear Not

Car show returns to Halifax

Fear not, auto buffs.
Just because the Halifax Wal-Mart is closed for renovations doesn’t mean the cruise night that has graced the store’s parking lot is in the shop. The Connecting Rods Auto Club Show Cruise Nite returns May 1, and will continue its run every Friday until the end of September. According to club member Lisa DiSola, Wal-Mart store manager Vincent Roberts was instrumental in keeping the show at the location. “They didn’t want it to leave,” said DiSola. “They were afraid that if it moved, it wouldn’t come back.” Roberts contacted the company’s home office in Arkansas, explained the situation and got the go-ahead to continue hosting the event. The club did look at alternative locations, according to DiSola, including the former Shaw’s site in Carver. Because of the work being done at Wal-Mart, the event may look a bit different. Portable toilets will be made available some sections of the parking lot will be closed off due to the construction work and some of the cars on display will now be parked in front of the building, not just in the back field, which remains accessible.
“It’s important that Wal-Mart remains a good neighbor and corporate citizen in Halifax,” wrote Chris Buchanan, a spokesman for Wal-Mart,in an e-mail.
