Intrepid Charity Walker Joins Echo Trek 2009: Julia Tremlett

Intrepid charity walker joins Echo trek

JULIA Tremlett is so dedicated to Macmillan Cancer Support that she has walked hundreds of kilometres across tough terrain on two continents for the
charity. The 64-year-old grandmother from Kenn, near Exeter, who was the charity’s Devon chairman for 10 years, has taken part in two 100km &mdash 63-mile &mdash walks. The first was in the Sahara Desert in 1999 and the second across the volcanic landscapes and ice-caps of Iceland in 2001. Now Julia, a former High Sheriff of Devon, plans to take part in our 12-mile night walk, which is being held to raise money for two charities, Macmillan and Exeter Leukaemia Fund. Similar charity walks in north and south Devon have attracted as many as 2,000 people. Julia, who has an MBE for her services to the community, began fundraising for the charity in the late 1980s. Her late mother-in-law, Dorothy Tremlett, and mother, Meriel Longsdon, were both cared for by Macmillan nurses.
Julia is encouraging people to take part in the night walk.
