LIVERPOOL Twitter users are eagerly awaiting their next social gathering after the success of the city’s first Twestival.
The event on Thursday saw dozens of users of the social networking service meet face-to-face for the first time at Leaf Tea Shop and Bar. Twitter allows people to post short messages online about what they are doing. Celebrity users include Stephen Fry and Russell Brand. Last Thursday saw Twitter users organise Twestivals in cities throughout the world to raise money for Charity:Water which aims to deliver clean, safe drinking water to developing countries. The Liverpool event, which included an auction and live music from 6ix Toys and The Lapis, raised over &pound500. Now organisers and other Merseyside Twitterers hope to hold more similar gatherings in the future. Prizes were donated by organisations including Liverpool School of Audio Engineering, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Circo. In her blog on the event at m8nd1.blogspot.com, joint organiser Mandy Phillips said: “Organising Twestival was an amazing experience, from initial gathering of expressions of interest through to receiving fantastic positive feedback from all involved &ndash it has been challenging, great fun, and helped the local Twitter community to really bond.
