Free anonymous parent support group for parents with preteens and/or teens.
The support group will meet six consecutive Thursdays, starting April 30, at the Charles River YMCA at 836 Great Plain Ave., from 9-10 a.m. Light refreshments provided. For more information contact Ronda at 781-718-9090. The Needham Coalition for Suicide Prevention is pleased to offer training in suicide prevention to members of the community. The next training is offered on Tuesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m., at Broadmeadow School’s Media Center. No prior registration is required. The Needham Youth Commission offers the Peer Tutor Program for elementary and middle school students (grades three-eight) who have demonstrated a need for academic assistance or a need for support in developing successful study habits. High school students provide one hour of tutoring each week throughout the academic year at designated sites. This program is not appropriate for students with advanced learning needs or behavioral issues. Applications are being accepted through May 29. Previous applicants who were on the waitlist must reapply with a current application. Applications are available in the Youth Commission office, through your child’s guidance office or at Parents will be notified of their child’s status in the program by the end of June. There is a fee associated with this program, which can be waived in the event of financial need. The Early Bird rates are $175/family pass $85/individual pass and $45/senior citizen pass. After May 22, the regular season rates will apply and are $210/family pass $105/individual pass and $55/senior citizen pass. Nonresidents may purchase passes with season rates of $305/family pass $155/individual pass and $80/senior citizen pass. For a nanny, au pair, caregiver or long-term household visitor, add $50 to the cost of a resident or nonresident family pass.
