OSAGE BEACH – Saturday saw a cascade of ducklings as part of the first Great Bagnell Dam Duck Drop.
Fred Sheen of the lake area is the lucky duck who won $5,000 dollars. Helicopters and boats dropped almost 4,000 rubber ducks into the Osage river at Osage Beach. Firefighters and EMT’s corralled the ducks and then released them down the race course. The fastest duck paddled the course in about 18 minutes. “They mostly came down in a pack, but you could see there were three right out in front that just seemed to catch the current. Right out across here we had an aquacart out in the middle as kind of an official finish line keeper,” said Justin Martin, a firefighter and EMT. The event also had crafts, face painting, and entertainment. The money raised from the event goes to the Lake Ozark Coast Kiwanis, the Bagnell Dam Strip Association, and the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
