Rugby Christmas Tree Event Raised £15k For Charity 2009: St Andrewrsquos

Rugby Christmas tree event raised £15k for charity

The St Andrew’s Church Festival of Christmas Trees fundraiser generated the four-figure sum in aid of charities in Rugby.
Local companies donated a Christmas tree which was decorated in a theme and displayed in the church in Church Street during the festive season. There was also a Santa’s Grotto run by the Rotary Club and Rugby BID, which proved to be a big attraction to the children of Rugby. Cemex also donated funds to the festival, bringing the total to &pound1,500 – the most raised in the five years the Christmas Trees fundraiser has run. Two designated charities will each receive &pound750. This year the funds will go to the Mayday Trust, which provides specialised support, accommodation and life-skills training for vulnerable adults. Rugby MIND, the local branch of the leading mental health charity, will also benefit. The tree that received the highest number of votes was from 1st Long Lawford Cub Scouts, second place went to the Woolscott Flower club and in third place was St Marie’s Nursery and Infant School.
A MULTI-MILLION pound scheme to prevent accidents on a notorious stretch of motorway near Rugby has received a mixed reaction.
