HUNDREDS of people went along to a tribute night for Andrew Piper, a city man who drowned accidentally in a Spanish swimming pool.
More than 200 people packed the Mount Pleasant pub in the city centre to enjoy a few drinks in Andrew’s honour and raise a little bit of cash for charity at the same time. The Plymouth man, pictured top right, died in August last year and his mum Anne Penhaligon has arranged a series of events in his name since the tragedy to raise cash for charity. The tribute night was the last of those events, said his mum. Andrew, 30, a former pupil of Devonport High School for Boys and Hele’s School, drowned in a friend’s pool in Alicante on August 9, 2008, while on holiday. Tributes poured into The Herald following the tragedy and a special plaque was put up on The Hoe in his memory. Hundreds turned up to his funeral at St Andrew’s Church at the end of August, at which he was described as a very popular man in Plymouth.
The event on Friday night was called ‘A Celebration Of Andy Piper’s Life’.
